BIESBOSCH

An adventurous daytrip of 20 km through a section of the Biesbosch National Park accessible only by canoe. The area is affected by the tides, but this day’s trip was a bit special as the wind pushed more water into the delta, and water levels were 1.5 meters above normal. There was also a strong wind, force 5-6, from the west.

We started at the Bevert parking area, where the high water made boarding difficult. Elsewhere, we had to portage at a bridge because the water made navigating under it impossible.

Due to the high water level, the difference between the normal waterway and the surrounding land was sometimes difficult to distinguish. Navigating and staying on the correct route was challenging. Meadows were flooded everywhere, and there were enormous expanses of water.
