In September, 2007 I got the necessary infrastructure
(MacBook Pro, Synology DS207) in place and decided to
migrate my personal website.
First I moved away from the Eclipse, Spring, Hibernate & MySQL based development environment. Too complex and too high maintenance for my home website. I looked at iWeb and tried it, but I wasn't particularly satisfied. First the loading of the pages after publishing wasn't too great. Furthermore I really missed the possibility to change the Theme (CSS support). Finally I missed the possibility to add functionality through JavaScript, PHP or Java programs, use MySQL database.
By accident during a Google search I ran into RapidWeaver 3.6.3 and I looks it meets my requirements perfectly.
After some investigation I decided to go for the Resume theme from BlueBall Design. I liked the clean and fresh feel. I have chosen the BLUE version and 1050 pixels width.
Still I have been playing with CSSEdit to modify some CSS styles e.g. color of the hyperlinks, tag cloud, read more, ....
Next I looked at the Veer collection for photographs to use as decoration. They offer a great collection of graphics.
Furthermore I found the plug-ins from YourHead and LogHound very useful. They complete the RapidWeaver standard capabilities e.g. using 2 columns, a site map.
Finally I published the first result using FTP to the WEB folder on the Synology DS207.
