Raving Rabbids TV Party

Wii Game
I have no previous experiences with the Raving Rabbids, but was attracted by some commercial of people demonstrating the game. I liked these screaming, crazy animals. The game has a simple construction, but is very divers. I was surprised by the numerous fun and silly games they offer the gamer.

In particular I like the use of the Wii balance board. After Shaun White Snowboarding again good use of the thing. You have to like the Gnu Surfing, sitting on your bottom on the Wii ballance board pretending to be sleight riding on top of a gnu...Shifting your weight from left to right, together with using the controls you can steer.

OS X Screen Capture

I talked about capturing parts of your screen before. Using COMMAND + SHIFT + 4 you will get the cross-hair. Next you can select the part of the screen and save the picture on the Desktop. The capture is as accurate as your own point and click capabilities e.g. sometimes you might get too much or too little, you need some editing afterwards.

This week I found out another "hidden" feature. For specific screen captures you might like some more accuracy e.g. the web browser window, Terminal screen. In that case use COMMAND + SHIFT + 4 + SPACEBAR. You will get a photo camera icon in stead of the cross-hair. Now you can capture more specific parts.

I found another tip in the MAC OS X Tips feed. The Grab application is located in Applications/Utilities and it has many more options for screenshots than the keyboard shortcuts do. The two main advantages are timed screenshots and being able to change the pointer type.

You can create a timed screenshot by going to the Capture menu, or by pressing Command-Shift-Z. Using this, you can achieve screenshots that are supposedly “impossible”. One example is the login window.

To change the pointer type, go to the Preferences. See the image below for the different options.

iPhone Firmware 2.2

iPhone
I upgrade my iPhone last week from firmware 2.1 to firmware 2.2. I used the standard upgrade using iTunes 8.0.2 and the stuff worked for some time.

However a few days ago I ran into problems. For some reason iTunes didn't like my non-standard telephone card.

Of course I heard the rumors about bugs in the latest release, but I had no indications of problems myself. I couldn't get the thing fixed at first and couldn't restore either. I think the later is related to base band upgrade and/or the recent iTunes upgrade.

After some research I found the solution. I basically restored the iPhone to factory settings using iTunes and than restored a custom firmware 2.2 created using PWNAGE 2.0. After I completed the procedure I connected the iPhone again. No problems anymore. I even restored a previous backup and retrieved the old settings for E-mail.

P.s. with the procedure I got Installer and Cydia...

You can find a detailed description and download the necessary software here...

Apple TV Upgrade 2.3

Apple TV
Last week Apple delivered updates for various products.

A firmware update 2.2 for the iPhone with the possibility to turn-off the auto correction. The iTunes version 2.0.8 improvements are less prominent.

I liked the Apple TV upgrade 2.3 best. Two features are great improvements.

First you can configure your multi purpose remote used for managing TV, DVD and video. Using the Settings menu you can configure the remote to manage your Apple TV too. You can store the little Apple TV remote in a save place.

Another nice improvement. In previous versions you would see a single list of movies under the My Movies menu e.g. for any TV Show you would see all episodes. Most Apple TV users have complaint about these large lists. No possibility existed to group related movies and get a single entry. With the new version 2.3 you get more options:
  • First goto iTunes and you should display Info for the episodes for the TV ShowSelect the Video tab
  • Now add a Show label for a group of movies e.g. 30 Rock Season 1
  • Next you can synchronize with the Apple TV
  • Now return to the Apple TV and look at the My Movies menu
  • The show episodes will show up in the folder of label you added

Wii Shaun White Snowboarding

We bought the new snowboard game for the Wii. The game is endorsed by the snowboard rider Shaun White.

The game is also available for other game platforms. The PS2 version has better graphics, but the game looks fun and colorful for children.

However for us the Wii version beats the other versions with the Wii Fit Board support. Of course you can't beat the real thing, but the feel is pretty natural standing on the board and making you moves. Much better than pretending to ride using just the controllers.
