Boulder Loop Trail

We made a few snowshoe hikes during our recent visit to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. You should try it. Escape the crowded slopes for a day.

A lot of Americans have or rent snowshoes. They hike the deep snow as welcome alternative for skiing or snowboarding. Both young and old can be found along the highway. Strapping on the snowshoes near the trailhead.

Boulder Loop Elevation

We have Tubbs Katahdin snowshoes, Lieke has MSR Denali snowshoes.

We decided to hike the 3 mile Boulder Loop Trail starting near the Albany covered bridge located at the Kancamagus Highway (Route 112). Not too difficult, but 2 hours plowing through deep snow and some 700 feet gain.

Don’t underestimate the effort, plowing through the snow takes an effort. On one hand you will want to dress warm during breaks, on the other hand dress light during the hike to prevent execesive sweating.

We were almost alone on the trail. Gently climbing to a ridge circling the mountain. At the top take a break for a snack and a drink. The trail is easy to follow and self guiding (yellow markers).
